Dr Parth Shah is Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Canberra. Both specialists hold appointments at Canberra Hospital and supervise ophthalmology trainees.
How to Refer a Patient
We accept referrals via HealthLink (ID: claritye), Oculo, fax, post, or email. A standard referral letter is all that is required for Medicare rebates to apply to your patient's consultation.

What is the average wait time for a routine appointment?
Routine appointments are typically available within 4–6 weeks. Priority appointments — for example, significant glaucoma progression or symptomatic cataracts — are usually available within 1–2 weeks. Urgent same-day or next-day appointments are available when medically necessary; please call us directly.
Does the patient need a written referral to access Medicare rebates?
Yes — and we send a detailed consultation letter to the referrer after every appointment. This includes clinical findings, the diagnosis, the management plan, any new or changed medications, and follow-up arrangements. Letters are sent within 48 hours of the consultation by email, Oculo or HealthLink.
Does Clarity Eye Surgeons offer public (hospital) ophthalmology services?
Clarity Eye Surgeons is a private specialist practice. However, both Dr Parth Shah and Dr Mariana Sheales hold consultant ophthalmologist appointments with ACT Health, where they provide care for public patients.
What out-of-pocket costs can my patient expect?
Our consultation fee and any out-of-pocket gap will be communicated clearly to patients before their appointment. Some investigations, such as OCT and fundus photography, do not have a Medicare rebate. Surgical costs are provided in a written quote prior to any procedure, including expected Medicare and private health insurance rebates.
Can I refer a patient with both cataracts and glaucoma?
Absolutely — this is a common and important referral. Both Dr Shah and Dr Sheales manage combined cataract and glaucoma cases, and combined surgery (cataract extraction with MIGS, such as iStent Inject or KDB Goniotomy) is available. Please indicate both conditions in your referral so we can allocate appropriate clinic time and assign the most suitable specialist.
How do I refer a child for a paediatric eye assessment?
Paediatric referrals are managed by Dr Parth Shah, who has specialist training in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery. Please include the child's age, the reason for referral and any optical correction history. Due to limited capacity, Dr Shah currently accepts referrals for children who may require surgical intervention.
